Mission Statement

Our mission is to empower a diverse community to enhance landscape resilience against wildfires, invasive species, and natural disasters through prescribed burns, restorative practices, and traditional land stewardship.

Our Vision

In 2024, the Umpqua Prescribed Burn Association (UPBA) is established with a mission to foster a community dedicated to fire management in and around the Umpqua Valley (based in Roseburg, OR). Given that nearly half of Oregon’s land is privately held, the existence of PBAs is crucial. By reintroducing controlled burns on the landscape, the UPBA aims to offer the community a cost-effective method for land stewardship, mitigating wildfire hazards, enhancing wildlife habitat, expanding wildlife corridors, and addressing the impacts of climate change. The UPBA is committed to empowering the public to actively participate in restoring the vitality of their natural surroundings. Its diverse membership will encompass tribal communities, landowners, industrial forest professionals, farmers, ranchers, agency professionals, community members, students, and any more interested parties, all united in this ecological endeavor.
